48-port RJ-45 Line Card in an EX 8200 series Switch

The line cards in EX 8200 series switches combine a Packet Forwarding Engine and Ethernet interfaces on a single assembly. They are field-replaceable units (FRUs) that can be installed in the line card slots on the front of the switch chassis. The line cards are hot-insertable and hot-removable: You can remove and replace them without powering off the switch or disrupting switch functions.

Note: We recommend that you take the line cards offline before removing them from the switch chassis, or you will lose all configurations on the line cards. See Removing a Line Card from an EX 8200 series Switch.

EX 8200 series switches use three types of line cards:

  • 48-port RJ-45 line card
  • 48-port SFP line card
  • 8-port SFP+ line card

You can use all three types of line cards at the same time in an EX 8200 series switch.

48-port RJ-45 line cards for EX 8200 series switches (see Figure 1) have 48 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet ports with RJ-45 connectors on the faceplate. Each port has two LEDs. See Network Port LEDs in an EX 8200 series Switch.
