About the SRX220 Services Gateway with Integrated Convergence Services

    This topic includes following sections:

    Basic Functions

The availability of hardware and software for voice and data transmission on the same device is called integrated convergence services.

The SRX220 Services Gateway with Integrated Convergence Services (ICS) implements a media gateway and a survivable call server (SRX Series SCS). The SRX220 Services Gateway with ICS integrates voice and data capabilities to connect Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phones and legacy analog phone/fax/PBX devices in a local site to SIP trunks or public switched telephone network (PSTN) service providers. These capabilities enable you to leverage IP infrastructure for both your voice and data needs.

The SRX220 Services Gateway with Integrated Convergence Services performs the following basic functions:

    • Connects local legacy analog phones, fax machines and PBX devices to voice over IP (VoIP) networks so that these devices can make calls using VoIP to other SIP phones or the PSTN, and vice versa
    • Assumes the call routing role as an SRX Series SCS for local SIP or analog phones, in the event of loss of WAN connections
    • Supports emergency calling (E911) by providing a mechanism for detecting emergency calls from local VoIP phones and passing these calls to the PSTN when detected
    • Provides power failover support for one analog phone and one PSTN FXO port

    Additional Features

The SRX220 Services Gateway with Integrated Convergence Services offers the following additional features:

    • Digit manipulation for remapping digits
    • Caller ID support for detection and transmission of caller information (for USA standards)
    • Call waiting for SIP and analog phones, in which the user is alerted to a pending, incoming call
    • Call hold and resume, in which SIP calls may be placed on hold and resumed by the SIP phone user
    • Call waiting and call forwarding
    • Local auto attendant with a standard workflow, allowing the caller to enter an extension number to reach the call destination
    • Voice-mail forwarding and retrieval to and from a centralized voice-mail system through the PSTN

    Common Deployment Scenarios

The SRX220 Services Gateway with Integrated Convergence Services is deployed in the following environments:

    • Enterprises that deploy VoIP in their headquarters and want to enable VoIP functionality for their branch offices
    • Enterprises that use hosted VoIP services from service providers (SPs) in order to enable VoIP functionality for their branch offices
    • Branch sites that are currently using a local key system or PBX and that want to utilize SIP trunking services
