System Architecture for a Routing Matrix with a TX Matrix Plus Router and Line-Card Chassis

 

A routing matrix with a TX Matrix Plus router and line-card chassis (LCCs) has two main architectural components, the control plane and the forwarding plane:

  • The control plane in the routing matrix consists of the host subsystems (Control Boards and Routing Engines) in the TX Matrix Plus router and line-card chassis (LCCs), TXP-CIP in the TX Matrix Plus router, and the LCC-CBs in the LCCs. The control plane in the routing matrix is formed by theconnection of the TXP-CIPs in the TX Matrix Plus router to the LCC-CBs in the LCCs. .

  • The forwarding plane consists of the switch interface boards in the TX Matrix Plus router and LCCs, and the Packet Forwarding Engines in the LCC FPCs.The forwarding plane in the routing matrix is formed by the switch fabric switching planes:.

    • TXP-T1600 configuration—TXP-F13 SIBs and TXP-F2S SIBs in the TX Matrix Plus router and the TXP-T1600 SIBs and Packet Forwarding Engines in the T1600 LCC.

    • TXP-T1600-3D configuration—TXP-F13-3D SIBs and TXP-F2S-3D SIBs in the TX Matrix Plus router and the TXP-LCC-3D SIBs and Packet Forwarding Engines in the T1600 LCC.

    • TXP-T4000-3D configuration—TXP-F13-3D SIBs and TXP-F2S-3D SIBs in the TX Matrix Plus router and the TXP-LCC-3D SIBs and Packet Forwarding Engines in the T4000 LCC.

    • TXP-Mixed-LCC-3D configuration—TXP-F13-3D SIBs and TXP-F2S-3D SIBs in the TX Matrix Plus router and the TXP-LCC-3D SIBs and Packet Forwarding Engines in the T1600 and T4000 LCCs.

The Routing Engines and the Packet Forwarding Engines perform their primary tasks independently. This arrangement streamlines routing control and forwarding and runs Internet-scale backbone networks at high speeds. Figure 1 shows the relationship between the Routing Engines and the Packet Forwarding Engines.
