Statement introduced in Release 10.0 of Junos OS.
Description
Specify the dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) relay method for a SIP template or for the peer call server to be used when the SRX Series survivable call server (SRX Series SCS) is in control. When the SIP template is applied to a SIP phone, the phone inherits the DTMF method.
DTMF uses eight different frequency signals sent in pairs to represent sixteen different numbers, symbols, and letters. Each tone is actually two frequencies, low and high, hence the name dual tone.
DTMF tones are generated when you press a button on a touch-tone phone. Although telephone systems are designed to carry voice signals, they must also carry other signals such as those representing telephone numbers that specify the number of the recipient of the call or a long-distance carrier, or signals that direct the network to send credit card information, for example. DTMF signalling accommodates these requirements.
After you press a button on the phone, DTMF enables dialing by identifying which key was pressed. It compresses the signal and sends it to the other party where it is decompressed.
