Description

Configure digit transform rules to be used for trunk groups. A digit transform rule specifies how an outgoing called number is manipulated before it is routed out a telephony service trunk and on to its destination. You can use a single digit transform rule for multiple trunk groups or create unique ones to satisfy the requirements for various digit patterns.

A digit transform rule is specified as a regular expression. When a called number matches the digit pattern of a route pattern, if a digit transform rule is configured for the trunk group to be used, the rule is applied to the called numbers to transform it before it is sent out a trunk.

Many techniques exist for performing digit manipulation using digit transform rules. You can add digits, strip them, change them, and expand a telephone number.

You can configure the dial plan to convert telephone numbers internal to the branch to be handled by the PSTN. It is common for organizations to require employees to dial an access code, such as the digit 9, to make outside calls. Using digit manipulation, you can remove the 9 from a telephone number before sending the call to the PSTN so that the PSTN won’t reject it.

It’s helpful to name rules to represent what they do. For example, you might call a rule that adds a branch prefix to a telephone number “add-branch-prefix”.
