Auto BIOS Upgrade Methods on the SRX Series Services Gateways

Junos OS Release 10.2 ships with BIOS version 1.7.

Note: For the SRX100, SRX210, SRX240, and SRX650 devices, the minimum compatible BIOS versions are as follows: SRX210 1.5

If the current device has a BIOS version earlier than the minimum compatible version, then the auto BIOS upgrade feature upgrades the BIOS automatically to version 1.7.

The BIOS upgrades automatically in the following scenarios:

• During Junos OS upgrade through either the J-Web interface or the CLI:

  In this case, only the active BIOS is upgraded. The following is sample output from upgrading the Junos OS using the CLI:

• During loader installation using TFTP or USB:

  In this case, only the active BIOS is upgraded. The following is sample output from loader installation:

• During system boot-up:

  In this case, both the active BIOS and the backup BIOS are upgraded. The following is sample output from system boot-up:

Note: The SRX650 device has only one set of BIOS. Thus, there is no backup BIOS upgrade for the SRX650 device.
