Understanding Integrated Convergence Services Pickup Groups

This topic explains the pickup group feature that you can use when the SRX Series survivable call server (SRX Series SCS) is in control and the peer call server is unavailable to provide the same or a similar service.

A pickup group allows members of the group to answer incoming calls directed to any phone number extension within the group. Members can belong concurrently to more than one pickup group. Stations that belong to a pickup group must be the same type; a SIP phone and an analog phone cannot belong to the same pickup group.

A customer services agency might use the pickup group feature to enable a group of agents who are seated in the same area to handle incoming calls as a group. When a phone is called, the first available agent takes the call, whether it comes in on the agent’s phone or another phone that belongs to the group.

The only phone that rings is the one that the call is directed to. To pick up a call, the user dials *8. After the user takes the call, the phone whose number was called no longer rings. If two phones in the same group ring, the call that came in first is answered first.
