Understanding Integrated Convergence Services Ring Groups
This topic covers the ring group feature that you can use when the SRX Series survivable call server (SRX Series SCS) is in control and the peer call server is unavailable to provide the same or a similar service.
You configure a ring group with a logical extension that outside parties can call. To identify stations belonging to the group, you specify the name of a preconfigured station group that includes the stations. When a call comes in on the logical extension, the phones of all members of the group ring.
A ring group allows incoming calls to be handled by any member of the group. The first member to answer the call takes it, and the phones of other members of the group no longer ring for that call. When the next call comes in, all phones that are not busy with another call ring for it. The first member to pick up a phone takes the call, and all phones stop ringing for that call, and so on as calls come in on the line. The person making the call hears a busy signal if all phones are busy.
Suppose you want a ring group to include a person who works at home using an IP phone and a person who works on site using an analog phone connected to your PBX system or directly to an FXS interface on the SRX Series device.
You can create a single ring group to include both of them. A ring group can comprise up to five stations and include both analog and SIP phones.
You can create more than one ring group, but you must use a unique logical extension for each of them.
