Understanding Integrated Convergence Services Support for SIP Networks with Separate Peer Call Server and Registrar Functions
This topic covers the Integrated Convergence Services SRX Series device support for separate registrar and peer call server functions.
By default, the SRX Series media gateway (SRX Series MGW) assumes that in a SIP network the registrar and the peer call server functions are managed by the same entity. To support these functions as a single entity, the SRX Series MGW sends both REGISTER and INVITE messages to the address configured for the peer call server.
For some SIP networks, the registrar and the call server are separate functions. For these network environments, you can include a statement in the SRX Series MGW peer call server configuration that allows you to specify the address of the registrar. The existing address specified for the peer call server remains unchanged, but it applies exclusively to the peer call server. When you configure separate registrar and peer call server addresses, the SRX Series MGW sends REGISTER messages to the registrar and INVITE messages to the peer call server.
If a registrar address is not configured, the default behavior takes effect.
