Understanding SIP Station Configurations
When the peer call server is in control, SIP phones register to it. When the SRX Series survivable call server (SRX Series SCS) is in control, SIP phones must register to it. In either case, you must configure stations for SIP phones if you want their users to be able to make and receive calls.

There are several ways in which you can configure stations for SIP phones:
- You can configure stations for a group of SIP phones by
configuring a range of extensions for them using the extension inherit
feature. This is the recommended and easiest method for configuring
many stations at one time.
To use this feature, you configure a station template with extension-inherit specified. If a SIP phone’s extension number matches a number within the specified range, it inherits the template’s configuration.
- You can configure stations for SIP phones discretely. This method allows you to configure specific caller ID information for the telephone, such as the user’s name, to be transmitted to called parties. Also, if authentication is required, configuring an individual station allows you to specify authentication ID and password parameters. If a station configuration requires unique information, you must create a discrete station configuration.
- You can configure the guest feature to allow SIP phones without class of restriction configurations whose numbers are not in the extension-inherit range to make calls within the branch, but not receive them.
