Routing Engine Interface Ports and Status Indicators
Below the alarm LEDs on the craft interface are
ports for connecting the Routing Engine to one or more external devices on
which system administrators can issue JUNOS command-line interface (CLI) commands
to manage the router (see Figure 7). The
ports with the indicated label in each set function as follows:
-
MGMT—Connects the Routing Engine through
an Ethernet connection to a management LAN (or any other device that plugs
into an Ethernet connection) for out-of-band management. The port uses an
autosensing RJ-45 connector to support both 10- and 100-Mbps connections.
To the left of the port is a link status indicator, which lights to
show that a link has been established over the Ethernet connection. To the
right of the port is an activity indicator, which flashes when data is being
transferred.
-
CONSOLE—Connects the Routing Engine
to a system console through an RS-232 (EIA-232) serial cable.
-
AUX/MODEM— Connects the Routing Engine
to a laptop, modem, or other auxiliary device through an RS-232 (EIA-232)
serial cable.
For information about the pinouts for the connectors, see Cable Connector Pinouts.
