Testing a Fiber-Optic Array Port
Four fiber-optic array loopback connectors are shipped in the tool kit with the TX Matrix Plus router (see Figure 1).

![]() | Caution: Do not connect and disconnect the fiber-optic array cable connectors, loopback connectors, or loopback adapters more frequently than required to perform the procedures in this hardware guide. These fiber-optic components are rated for a limited number of insertions (approximately 100). |
To use the loopback connectors to test the TXP-F13 SIB fiber-optic array ports:
- Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
- Take the switching plane offline.
- Bring the TXP-F13 SIB offline by pressing the SFC ONLINE/OFFLINE button.
- Clean the fiber-optic array ports, fiber-optic
array cables, loopback adapters, and loopback connectors.

Caution: During maintenance or replacement procedures, small deposits of oil, dust, and debris can enter the TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB fiber-optic array ports, the fiber-optic array cable connectors, and the loopback connectors and adapters. We recommend that you clean the optics in these components, as well as the loopback connector and adapter dust covers, immediately before connecting them.
- Remove the dust covers from the loopback connectors and from the fiber-optic array ports. Temporarily store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
- Align a loopback connector with each TXP-F13 SIB fiber-optic array port, and carefully press it into the port until it stops. The loopback connector and fiber-optic array port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
- Bring the TXP-F13 SIB online by pressing the SFC ONLINE/OFFLINE button.
- Verify that the RxPWR LED for that fiber-optic array port is steadily lit green.
- If the RxPWR LED for any fiber-optic array
port is lit steadily yellow or is not lit , take the TXP-F13 SIB offline
again, remove the loopback connector, and clean the fiber-optic array
ports and loopback connectors. Then reconnect the loopback connectors.
If the RxPWR LEDs for the fiber-optic array ports still fail to light steadily green, contact your customer support representative for additional instructions.
- After you have finished testing the fiber-optic array port, remove a dust covers from the dust-free resealable plastic bag. Reinstall the dust cover on the loopback connector. Align the dust cover with the loopback connector, and carefully press them together until they stop. The covers and the loopback connectors are keyed to ensure proper mating. Store the loopback connectors in the dust-free resealable plastic bag.
