Testing a Fiber-Optic Array Cable
Use a fiber-optic array loopback adapter (see Figure 1) that is shipped in the tool kit to test the integrity of the fiber-optic array cables.
To test a fiber-optic array cable:
- Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
- Remove the dust cover from the loopback adapter and the fiber-optic array cable. Store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
- Take the switching plane offline.
- Bring the TXP-F13 SIB offline by pressing the ONLINE/OFFLINE button for the SFC.

Warning: Do not look directly into a fiber-optic array port or a connector at the end of a fiber-optic array cable connected to a port. The fiber optics emit laser light that can damage your eyes.
- Disconnect the fiber-optic array cable from the port.
- Clean the fiber-optic array cable and loopback
adapter.

Caution: During maintenance or replacement procedures, small deposits of oil, dust, and debris can enter the TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB fiber-optic array ports, fiber-optic array cable connectors, and loopback connectors and adapters. We recommend that you clean the optics in these components, as well as the loopback connector and adapter dust covers, immediately before connecting them.
- Align the loopback adapter with the cable connector, and carefully press it into the connector until it stops. The loopback adapter and the cable connector are keyed to ensure proper mating.
- Bring the TXP-F13 SIB online by pressing the ONLINE/OFFLINE button for the SFC.

Warning: Do not look directly into a fiber-optic array port or a connector at the end of a fiber-optic array cable connected to a port. The fiber optics emit laser light that can damage your eyes.
- Verify that the RxPWR LED for the fiber-optic array port is steadily lit green.
- If the RxPWR LED for a fiber-optic array port is lit steadily yellow or is not lit, bring the TXP-F13 SIB offline, remove the loopback adapter, and clean it and the fiber-optic array cable. After you have cleaned the fiber-optic array cable and the loopback adapter, repeat the procedure. If the RxPWR LED for a fiber-optic array port still does not steadily light green, contact your customer support representative for additional instructions. Do not proceed with the installation of the TX Matrix Plus router until you have spoken to your customer support representative.
- Remove a dust cover from the dust-free resealable plastic bag and reinstall it on the loopback adapter. Align the dust cover with the loopback adapter, and carefully press them together until they stop. The cover and the loopback adapter are keyed to ensure proper mating. Store the loopback adapter in the dust-free resealable plastic bag.
