Overview of Upgrading an Offline T1600 Router Before Integrating it into a Routing Matrix

The routing matrix includes up to four T1600 routers connected to a TX Matrix Plus router.

If the T1600 router is operational (passing traffic), use the procedures described in Overview of Upgrading and Integrating an Operational T1600 Router.

Note: Do not power on the T1600 router until instructed to do so.

You must proceed through the upgrade process in the following order:

1. Order the hardware. The hardware upgrade kit includes two LCC-CBs and five TXP-T1600 SIBs. The Routing Engines must be ordered separately. The rear fan tray and power supplies, if needed, can also be ordered separately.

2. Prepare the installation site for the T1600 router.

3. Review all safety guidelines and warnings for both the TX Matrix Plus router and T1600 router.

   Warning: To avoid harm to yourself or the TX Matrix Plus router as you install and maintain it, you must follow the the safety procedures for working with Internet routers, as well as the guidelines and warnings for working with and near electrical equipment. However, providing an exhaustive set of guidelines for working with electrical equipment is beyond the scope of this documentation.

4. If you plan to run a release prior to Junos OS Release 10.0, remove Type 1 FPCs, Type 2 FPCs, and T640 Enhanced Scaling FPC4-1P FPCs, and install blanks in the FPC slots.

   Note: Although you can choose to leave unsupported FPCs in the T1600 router, the FPCs and PICs installed in those FPCs will not come online and will not function.

5. Verify that you have the required rear fan tray. An upgraded rear fan tray (part number 760-024613) is required to cool the chassis. Part number 760-009870 is not supported for a T1600 router in a routing matrix.
6. Verify that you have the required power supplies. An upgraded three-input 240-A power supply (part number 740-026384) or a four-input 240-A power supply is required. The three-input 240-A power supply (part number 740-017906) is not supported for a T1600 router in a routing matrix.
7. Gather the tools required to upgrade the T1600 router hardware components.

8. Unpack the T1600 router components and verify the parts received.
9. Power off the T1600 router.

   See the Powering Off the T1600 Router.

10. Replace the hardware components and upgrade the software on the T1600 router.

11. Integrate the offline T1600 router into the routing matrix.
