Connecting an Offline T1600 Router to the TX Matrix Plus Router

  1. Connecting the Control Planes
  2. Connecting the Fiber-Optic Array Cables to the TXP-T1600 SIBs

Connecting the Control Planes

To connect the control planes (see Figure 1) between the TXP-CIP and LCC-CBs on the T1600 router ports:

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the TX Matrix Plus chassis.
  2. Connect one end of a UTP Category 5 cable to the appropriate RJ-45 LCC control plane port on TXP-CIP-0. The cable wiring is straight-through (not crossover).
  3. Connect one end of a UTP Category 5 cable to the appropriate RJ-45 LCC control plane port on TXP-CIP-1.
  4. Detach the ESD grounding strap from the TX Matrix Plus router, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the T1600 chassis.
  5. Connect the control cables from the LCC control plane ports on the CIPs in the TX Matrix Plus router to the LCC-CBs on the T1600 router.
    • From TXP-CIP-0 , connect the other end of the cable into the port labeled SFC0 on the LCC-CB-0 on the T1600 router.
    • From TXP-CIP-0, connect the other end of the cable to the port labeled SFC0 on the LCC-CB-1 on the T1600 router.

Note: The RJ-45 ports labeled SFC1 through SFC3 on the TXP-CIP are reserved for future use.

  6. Arrange the cable appropriately. You can route the control plane cables into the optional T1600 rear cable management system (see Figure 2). Loosen the soft band strap for each control plane cable, route the cable through the soft band strap, and fasten it. Route the cables upward toward the top of the chassis and through the soft band straps located to the left, and fasten them.

Connecting the Fiber-Optic Array Cables to the TXP-T1600 SIBs

This procedure assumes that the fiber-optic array cables are already connected to the TXP-F13 SIBs. To connect the fiber-optic array cables to the TXP-T1600 SIBs in the T1600 router (four for each TXP-T1600 SIB):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Use the labels on the ends of the fiber-optic array cables and Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3, to identify the cable that plugs into the fiber-optic array ports labeled A, B, C, and D.
  3. Remove the dust cover from the fiber-optic array ports on the TXP-T1600 SIB. Store the dust cover in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
  4. Remove the dust covers from the four fiber-optic array cable connectors that connect to one TXP-T1600 SIB. Store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
  5. Clean the four fiber-optic array cable connectors.
  6. Align the cable connectors labeled A, B, C, and D with the corresponding fiber-optic array port, and carefully press each cable connector into the port until it stops. The cable connectors and fiber-optic array ports are keyed to ensure proper mating.
  7. You can route the cables into the optional T1600 rear cable management system (see Figure 4. Pull the latch for the cable management clamp toward you to release it. Route each fiber-optic array cable upward toward the top of the chassis, and press it into one of the four cable dividers. Press the latch for the cable management clamp to secure the cables.

Caution: You must maintain a minimum bend radius of 4 in. (10.2 cm) short term, and 3 in. (7.6 cm) long term.

  8. Arrange the fiber-optic array cables so that they do not interfere with system airflow and maintenance access.
  9. Repeat the procedure for the remaining TX-T1600 SIBs.
  10. After all the fiber-optic cables are connected, you can use the two soft band straps to secure all the fiber-optic array cables in the optional T1600 rear cable management system.
