TX Matrix Plus Router Power Requirements
To allow for future growth so that you can operate the router in any hardware configuration without upgrading the power infrastructure, we recommend that you provision at least 48 A @ –48 VDC (nominal) per input.
If you do not plan to provision at least 48 A @ –48 VDC (nominal) per input, you can use the information in Table 1 to calculate the typical power consumption @ –48 VDC and typical thermal output for your hardware configuration. Table 1 lists the system current requirements for various hardware components when the TX Matrix Plus router is operating under typical voltage conditions.
Table 1: Component Power Requirements
Component | System Current Requirement (Watts) | System Current Requirement (Amps @ –48 VDC) |
|---|---|---|
Base system (includes one host subsystem, one TXP-CIP, cooling system at normal speed, and craft interface, and two power supplies) | 1139 W | 23.75 A |
Host subsystem (Routing Engine and TXP-CB) | 156 W | 3.25 A |
TXP-CIP | 33 W | 0.7 A |
Cooling system (normal speed) | 856 W | 17.8 A |
Cooling system (full speed) | 2464 W | 51.3 A |
Craft interface | 14 W | 0.3 A |
Power Supply | 40 W | 0.83 A |
TXP-F13 SIB | 280 W | 5.8 A |
TXP-F2S SIB | 65 W | 1.4 A |
The following examples show how to calculate power consumption for various hardware configurations under typical voltage conditions, input current from a different source voltage, and thermal output.
- Example of calculating typical power consumption for minimum
configuration:Base System + 20 F2S SIBs + 5 F13 SIBs=1139 W + 20(65 W) + 5(280 W) =1139 W + 1300 W + 1400 W = 3839 W3839 W = 79.78 A @ –48 VDC
- Example of calculating typical power consumption for maximum
configuration:Base System + 1 Host Subsystem + 1 CIP + 20 F2S SIBs + 10 F13 SIBs + cooling system (full speed- normal speed) =1139 W + 156 W + 33 W + 20(65 W) + 10(280 W) + (2464 W – 856 W)=1139 W + 156 W + 33 W + 1300 W + 2800 W + 1608 W = 7036 W7036 W = 146.58 A @ –48 VDC

Note: The power system rating is 9200 W.
- Current requirement adjustment for fans running at full
speed (high temperature environment or cooling component failure):Calculated system current (X) – Cooling (normal) + Cooling (full speed) =X A – 17.8 A + 51.3 A = X A + 33.5 A
- Input current from a DC source other than –48 VDC
(based on maximum configuration):(–54 VDC input) x (input current X) = (–48 VDC) x (input current Y)54 x X = 48 x 62 AX = 48 x 62 A/54 = 55 A
- Example of calculating system thermal output:Watts DC/0.293 = BTU/hr7036 W/0.293 = 24,013.65 BTU/hr
