SRX3600 Services Gateway Network Processing Cards
Network Processing Cards (NPCs) are common form-factor module (CFM) cards that receive inbound traffic from the I/O cards (IOCs) and direct it to the appropriate Services Processing Card (SPC) for processing. Once services processing is complete, the NPC receives outbound traffic from the SPC(s) and directs it back to the appropriate IOC. Additionally, the NPC performs the following functions:
- Buffers incoming traffic and queues outgoing traffic.
- Performs advanced traffic management, including DoS/DDoS protective measures. For example, it can drop traffic to or from a particular IP address, protecting from ICMP, UDP, and TCP SYN flooding, and buffering bursty traffic to protect the Services Processing Card (SPC).

Table 1 describes the NPC behavior indicated by the LEDs on its front panel. The ONLINE button does not perform any function. To power up and power down an NPC, you must use the main Power button on the front panel of the SFB.
