TX Matrix Midplane Description

The midplane is located in the center of the chassis and forms the rear of the TX-SIB card cage (see Figure 1). The TX-SIBs install into the midplane from the front of the chassis, and the Routing Engines and TX-CBs install into the midplane from the rear of the chassis. The power supplies and cooling system components also connect to the midplane.

The midplane performs the following major functions:

  • Power distribution—The TX Matrix power supplies are connected to the midplane, which distributes power to all the TX Matrix components.
  • Signal connectivity—The midplane provides signal connectivity between all TX Matrix components for monitoring and controlling the system.
  • Redundancy connectivity—The midplane provides redundant paths for all critical connections.
