JCS1200 Platform Description

The Juniper Networks JCS1200 Control System is a high-density, high-performance rack-mounted control and Routing Engine platform. The JCS1200 platform provides 12 bays for Routing Engines and other JCS1200 platform components, integrating common resources that are shared by the Routing Engines. The use of common resources provides a small server-system footprint that contains high-performing servers with minimal cabling.

The JCS1200 platform connects to up to three T Series routers through Gigabit Ethernet links connected between control boards on the T Series router and switch cards in the JCS1200 chassis. Each Routing Engine (or Routing Engine pair) in the JCS1200 comprises the control plane of a single Protected System Domain (PSD).

PSDs provide you with the ability to divide Flexible PIC Concentrators (FPCs) on a T Series router and assign them to multiple administratively separated routers. PSDs separate the control plane from the forwarding plane and reduce capital expenses by enabling the sharing of interfaces. Each PSD acts as a self-contained router.
