This reference is designed for Juniper Networks customers who want to write custom applications for monitoring routing platforms that run the JUNOS software. It assumes that you are familiar with basic terminology and concepts of XML, with XML-parsing utilities such as the Document Object Model (DOM) or Simple API for XML (SAX), and with the JUNOS command-line interface (CLI).

In addition, you need a broad understanding of networks in general, the Internet in particular, networking principles, and network configuration. You must also be familiar with one or more of the following Internet routing protocols:

Personnel operating the equipment must be trained and competent; must not conduct themselves in a careless, willfully negligent, or hostile manner; and must abide by the instructions provided by the documentation.
