Statement introduced in JUNOS Release 7.4.

Description

Configure the authentication algorithm for plain-text passwords.

Default

For JUNOS software, the default encryption format is md5. For JUNOS-FIPS software, the default encryption format is sha1.

Options

The hash algorithm that authenticates the password can be one of three algorithms:

• md5—Produces a 128-bit digest.

• sha1—Produces a 160-bit digest.

• des—Has a block size of 8 bytes; its key size is 48 bits long.
