Installation Media

The installation media is used to recover a router from a software failure. The installation media repartitions the media and completely reinstall the JUNOS software. No information from previous installations is retained during this installation. Thus, an initial configuration is required before the router can be put back into service. For more information on creating an initial configuration, see the Getting Started Guide for your router.

Note: Once you have rebuilt a router using the installation media, access to the router is restricted to the console port until the management port is configured during the initial configuration.

The following installation media files are available for download:

Installation Media	Description
floppy1–<release>* floppy2–<release>*	JUNOS software for the M-40 when using the LS-120 external drive.
install-media*	JUNOS software for the M-series, MX-series, T-series, and TX Matrix routers.
junos-jseries-<release>-export-cf<size>.gz	JUNOS software for the J-series routers. You must select the correct installation media file that corresponds to the correct CompactFlash card you are using.
junos-jsr-<release>-export-cf<size>.gz	JUNOS software with enhanced services for the J-series routers. You must select the correct installation media file that corresponds to the correct CompactFlash card you are using.
