Creating a Radio Profile for Voice Clients Only

Voice over IP has different requirements than data—for an explanation, see Understanding Voice Clients and Voice Traffic. If your network is supporting both wireless data clients and voice clients, we recommend that you have two radio profiles, one for data and one for voice—this topic describes wireless radio profiles for voice clients.

    Before you begin:

To create a radio profile for voice and assign it to radios:

    1. Click in the Network Director banner.
    2. Under Select View, select either Logical View, Location View, Device View or Custom Group View.

Tip: Do not select Virtual View or Topology View.

    3. Click Radio under Profile Management in the tasks pane.

The Manage Radio Profiles page appears.

    4. Click Add.

The radio profile wizard opens at the Basic Settings tab.

    5. Configure the radio profile, setting these options for voice traffic:
      • Do not use auto-tune
      • Scan for rogues on the ‘operating’ channel only.
      • Configure the appropriate quality of service (QoS) method (WMM or Spectralink) for your phones.
      • Enable U-APSD for optimum powersave.
    6. Click Review and check your settings. If you need to change a setting click Edit in the corresponding section, make changes, and then return to the Review tab.
    7. Click Finish.

The radio profile appears in the list on the screen. You can now assign this profile to radios.

    8. Select a radio profile, and then click Assign.
    9. Select at least radio from the object list, and then click either Profile Association or Next.
    10. Click Review and make any needed changes by clicking Edit. Return to the Review tab.
    11. Click Finish.

The radio profile assignment appears next to the AP or radios in the list.
