    Managing Virtual Machines

Virtual machine (VM) creation is accomplished using the virtual-machines configuration statement. Prior to Junos OS Release 14.1, VMs could be destroyed by reconfiguration using the virtual-machines configuration statement, as well as explicitly deleting the virtual machine. Other items that could destroy VMs included deleting or reinstalling a package.

As of Junos OS Release 14.1, The package needs to be installed on the Routing Engine only for VM creation and reconfiguration. All other events will result in the VM continuing to run an earlier image until and unless the user either installs the new package on the Routing Engine or deletes the VM instance configuration.
