    Clearing vty and Console Lines

    You can use the clear line command to clear any line on the system (vty or console). Using this command terminates any service, such as an FTP session, on this line and closes any open files.

    You can specify the absolute number to clear any line. You can specify the line type and the relative number to clear a specific type of line. For each line on the system, the absolute number is listed in the line number field and the relative number is listed in the line name field of the show users command output.

    To remove any services on a line and close any files opened as a result of services on that line:

    • Issue the clear line command in Privileged Exec mode.
      • To clear the line based on the absolute number:
        host1#clear line 2
      • To clear the line based on the relative number:
        host1#clear line console 0
