Release Information
Statement introduced in Junos OS Release 13.3R5 for MX Series routers.
Description
Dynamically learn PIM router interfaces from PIM hello received on the router interface. When this setting is enabled, interfaces are automatically marked as router facing after receiving a PIM hello, and a neighbor state is also established. This can be especially useful, for example, if you need to enable PIM on multiple or redundant routers in the network because it means the PIM settings one each do not need to be statically configured. learn-pim-router is disabled by default. In earlier releases of Junos, multicast snooping only marks an interface as router-facing if it is statically configured or when an IGMP query is received so if two routers are present in the LAN one becomes the querier and the other is the non-querier.
![]() | Note: Upon deleting the learn-pim-router setting, if any static multicast router or query-based multicast router flags exist, the PIM interface is not removed from the multicast router list. |
