Changes in Behavior and Syntax

This section lists the changes in behavior of Junos OS features and changes in the syntax of Junos OS statements and commands in Junos OS Release 14.2R8 or later for Junos Fusion Provider Edge.

Junos Fusion

  • Default configuration statement now implicit (Junos Fusion)—Starting in Junos OS Release 14.2R5, the single-home statement at the [edit chassis satellite-management] hierarchy level is now both the default value and implicit. The statement becomes automatically configured when you include any portion of the [edit chassis satellite-management] hierarchy level in your Junos Fusion configuration. As a result, all satellite devices are single-homed by default and the single-home statement does not need to be configured explicitly. However, for backward compatibility reasons, the single-home configuration statement is still supported for legacy configurations.
  • Support for the satellite all option across multiple user classes (Junos Fusion)—Starting in Junos OS Release 14.2R6, you can now include the satellite all statement at the [edit system login class class-name] hierarchy level for multiple classes. When you assign a class containing the satellite all privilege to a user, the user can access a satellite device from an aggregation device without re-entering user credentials, such as username and password.
  • Evolution of satellite device user privileges (Junos Fusion)—When you assign the following privileges to a user, the user can log in to a satellite device from an aggregation device per software release, as follows:
    • Junos OS Release 14.2R3: The root user can log in without a password, and users with class satellite all can log in with a password.
    • Junos OS Release 14.2R5: The root user, superuser, and users with class satellite all can log in without a password.
    • Junos OS Release 14.2R6: The root user, superuser, and users with class satellite all, permissions all, and permissions maintenance can log in without a password.
  • Automatic channelized interface support on QFX5100-96S satellite devices (Junos Fusion)—Starting with Junos OS Release 14.2R7 and satellite software release 1.0R4, port 96 and port 100 on QFX5100-96S satellite devices can be automatically channelized as follows:

If the satellite device has not established a connection with the aggregation device:

    • The satellite device tries to channelize port 96 if no transceivers are inserted in ports 97 to 99.
    • The satellite device also tries to channelize port 100 if no transceivers are inserted in ports 101 to 103.

Until the satellite device establishes a connection with the aggregation device, the channelization mode will toggle. When this happens, the SPFE process on the QFX5100-96S satellite device restarts and changes the channelization mode. The autodiscovery process stops when the satellite device establishes a connection with the aggregation device and does not restart until the satellite device reboots.
