Installing and Configuring the Junos Space Network Management Platform

The Junos Space Network Management Platform is available as virtual appliance and as a preinstalled software on JA2500 and JA1500 Junos Space Appliances and virtual appliance.

Installing the Junos Space Network Management Platform

For information about installing a JA2500 Junos Space Appliance and JA1500 Junos Space Appliance, refer to the JA2500 Junos Space Hardware Guide and JA1500 Junos Space Hardware Guide at Junos Space Network Management Platform Documentation.

Note: If you are using a physical appliance for implementing the Service Automation solution, we recommend that you use the JA2500 Junos Space Appliance.

A host for Junos Space Virtual Appliance meant for deploying a Junos Space Network Management Platform image should meet the following requirements:

    • 64-bit quad processor with at least 2.66 GHz
    • 32-GB memory
    • One RJ-45 10/100/1000 network interface card
    • 100-GB hard disk
    • Disk I/O speed of 200Mb/s or above
    • VMware ESX Server 4.0 or later, VMware ESXi Server 4.0 or later, or qemu-kvm (KVM) Release 0.12.1.2-2/448.el6 or later installed on CentOS Release 6.5.

Note: Only an image of Junos Space Network Management Platform Release 14.1R2 and later can be installed on a Kernal-Based Virtual Machine (KVM).

To install the Junos Space Network Management Platform VM image:

    • Download the VM Image from https://www.juniper.net/support/products/space/#sw.

The Junos Space Network Management Platform is delivered as a *.ova file for installation on the VMware server and a *.qcow2 file for installation on a KVM.

Note: Do not change the name of the Junos Space Virtual Appliance image file that you download from the Juniper Networks support site. If you change the name of the image file, the installation of the Junos Space Virtual Appliance can fail.

    • Use the VMware vSphere Client to install the VM image on a VMware ESX or ESXi server or use the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) to install the VM image on a KVM.

For information about deploying the Junos Space Virtual Appliance, see Deploying a Junos Space Virtual Appliance on an VMware ESX or VMware ESXi Serve or Deploying a Junos Space Virtual Appliance on a KVM Server at Junos Space Network Management Platform Documentation.

Configuring the Junos Space Network Management Platform

You must configure the basic network and machine information for the Junos Space Platform to be deployed on a network. The initial configuration of the Junos Space Platform involves configuring:

    • A new password for the admin user
    • IPv4 and (optional) IPv6 address of the node management or the eth0 interface
    • Subnet mask and (optional) prefix for the eth0 interface
    • IPv4 and (optional) IPv6 address of the default gateway for the eth0 interface
    • Name server
    • (Optional) IPv4 and IPv6 address of the device management or eth3 interface
    • IP address for Web access (not required if the Junos Space node is deployed as a part of a cluster)
    • NTP server
    • Node display name
    • Password for cluster maintenance mode administrator

The following is a sample of the Junos Space Platform configuration:

    IPv4 Change: eth0 is 192.0.2.50 / 255.255.0.0
     Default IPv4 Gateway = 192.0.2.150 on eth0
