Junos Space SDK > Device Simulator Guide

Starting and Stopping the Simulator

Typically you start and stop the Device Simulator through the Eclipse IDE GUI, as described in the Application Developer Guide in the Using the Device Simulator topic. However, you can also start and stop the Device Simulator manually.

To manually start and stop simulator device instances, perform these steps:

  1. Start the JSVA if it is not already started, then log in and open a shell, as described in Starting the Junos Space Virtual Appliance (JSVA).
  2. cd to /home/admin/dmiSim
  3. To start simulator device instances, type:

         ./startsimSdk  num_of_sim_instances

    Where num_of_sim_instances is a number from 1 to 10. Note that this number can be extended by editing the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file, as described in Increasing the Maximum Number of Simulated Devices.
  4. To stop the DMI simulator, type:

          ./stopsim

Verifying that the Device Simulators have Started

To verify that the simulator devices are started, perform these steps:

  1. At a shell prompt in the JSVA, type:

           netstat -an | grep 22

  2. You should see a line like this:

        tcp         0         0   :::22        :::*        LISTEN

    If the above line is not returned, then the devices did not start properly.

  3. You can list the simulator processes using the following command:

          ps -elf | grep sshd
