Cloud CPE Selfcare Application for MX Series Routers Overview

This topic provides an overview of the cloud customer premises equipment (cCPE) Selfcare application.

The cCPE Selfcare application enables you to configure, manage, and monitor cloud CPE services running on MX Series routers residing in the service provider edge network. The cCPE Selfcare application runs on the Junos Space Network Management Platform; however, if you are managing your MX Series routers with an operations support systems (OSS), you can integrate your OSS and the cCPE Selfcare application APIs and provision your cCPE services with your OSS.

Note: Before you can use the cCPE Selfcare application to provision cCPE services on MX Series routers, you first need to configure the cCPE common configuration on each router providing cCPE services . Configure the common configuration using the CLI, Junos Space Network Management Platform, or your OSS. The cCPE Selfcare application is used only to provision and manage cCPE services.

If you use Junos Space Services Activation Director to provision your network, create customer sites, and associate Layer 3 VPN services with cCPE customers, you can import the customer topology and network inventory to the cCPE Selfcare application. Otherwise, the cCPE Selfcare application provides its own APIs that enable importing this information from your OSS.

The cCPE Selfcare application also provides a Web portal that enables your cCPE customers to manage and monitor their specific cCPE services and perform certain configuration changes specific to their cCPE context. Using the Selfcare Web portal, authorized administrators can change certain configuration parameters and view states and statistics for their cCPE resources. For security purposes, the Selfcare Web portal exposes only configuration capabilities that the the cCPE customer can change safely; changing the configuration does not affect other cCPE customers.

Figure 1 shows the overall cCPE architecture. Two customers are represented in Figure 1, one customer has two sites (Site A and Site C). The second customer has a single site, Site B. Both customers have access through firewalls to the Web and video services on the Internet.

    The cCPE Selfcare application:

    • Provides configuration, management, and monitoring of cCPE services for service providers.
    • Is a Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application based on the Junos Space Network Management Platform software development kit (SDK).
    • Acts as the backend server processing configuration, management, and monitoring requests from service providers and their cCPE customers.
    • Includes a Representational State Transfer (RESTful) API that service providers can use to integrate their operations support systems (OSS).
    • Uses the Junos Space Network Management Platform authentication and permission control to expose cCPE resources only to authorized cCPE customer administrators. For security purposes, only certain configuration capabilities are available to cCPE customers through the cCPE Selfcare Web portal. Configuration changes made by one cCPE customer do not affect other cCPE customers.
    • Provides a Web portal that enables cCPE customer authorized administrators to configure, manage, and monitor their cCPE services and sites.

Downloading and Installing the Application Packages
