The Runtime Statistics API
You can fetch traffic statistics for physical and logical interface by name, index and SNMP ID. In the same way, you can fetch generic physical interface error statistics.
This library lets you fetch traffic and error statistics of the following types:
- Last Cleared Statistics: JUNOS provides ways to reset the statistics counters - essentially, to clear the statistics. The traffic and error statistics collected after resetting the counters are maintained in the same counters for each interface; this is referred to as "statistics since last cleared".
- Absolute Statistics: In addition to maintaining statistics since last cleared, JUNOS also maintains statistics counters that store the traffic and error statistics since the interface was brought up. This is referred to as "absolute statistics"
JUNOS differentiates between local and remote traffic based on the source and destination address of the packet:
- Local traffic has packets that are either destined for one of the interfaces on the router, or originated from the router (that is, the source address is an interface on the router.)
- Remote traffic is transit traffic that is forwarded by the router using the forwarding table's intelligence. Packets of remote traffic do not have any router interface address as their source or destination address.
