Reliable Configuration Download

To facilitate high availability between the MultiServices PIC and the Routing Engine, SDK data-handling code on the MultiServices PIC needs to access the system configuration values that were set on the Routing Engine, as shown in the following diagram:

In addition to decoupling the Routing Engine from the MultiServices PIC, the reliable configuration download feature is based on the JUNOS feature ifstate async rtsock, which ensures that even under router stress, asynchronous configuration updates are reliably delivered to clients once and only once.

The system automatically downloads configuration data to the MultiServices PIC, allowing the configuration to be preserved across application restarts and downloaded seamlessly to new PICs that come online.
