Designer Tools Overview

Note 

  • Designer Tools is available only for users with the Service Provider (SP) Administrator role.

  • In the cloud-hosted version of Contrail Service Orchestration (CSO), which is managed by Juniper Networks, the SP Administrator role is available only for Juniper. Therefore, in the cloud-hosted version of CSO, Designer Tools is accessible only to Juniper.

Designer Tools are a suite of GUI-based tools that enable network designers to support virtualized network functions (VNFs) and network services in CSO. Designer Tools comprise the following:

Procedure

The workflow (see Figure 1) to create a network service by using Designer Tools and use it in CSO is as follows:

  1. Use Configuration Designer to:

    Procedure

    1. Create a configuration design request.
    2. Use Configuration Designer to publish the configuration templates.
  2. Use Resource Designer to:

    Procedure

    1. Create a VNF package request.
    2. Validate, and publish VNF packages to NSD.
  3. Use NSD to:

    Procedure

    1. Create a network service design requests by using the VNFs from Resource Designer and (optionally) configuration templates.
    2. Build and publish the network services to CSO
  4. Service Provider administrators use Administration Portal to assign a set of network services to their customers.
  5. Tenant administrators use Customer Portal to access the assigned network services to manage their sites and services.
