    Scheduling Network Element Discoveries

You can schedule the proNX Service Manager to rediscover network elements periodically.

Note: You do not normally need to schedule discoveries because the network elements automatically update PSM of any changes.

Scheduling a Network Element Discovery Task

Use this procedure to schedule a discovery task for a network element.

    1. From the main menu, choose Edit >Schedules.

      The Scheduler window is displayed.

    2. In the Scheduler window, right-click the Discovery Schedules entry in the table and choose Add Schedule. The Scheduling dialog window is displayed.

    3. Specify the discovery criteria as described in Discovering Network Elements.
    4. Specify the start date and time using the calendar drop-down list shown below.

      1. Select the current day or a date in the future in the calendar. If you select a date in the past, the discovery runs immediately.
      2. Specify the start time in the Time field below the calendar.
    5. An end date is optional. To set an end date, use the buttons in the lower left corner of the Schedule section to set a specific end date, or to set the schedule to end after a defined number of occurrences.
    6. The Recurrence Pattern panel lets you set a schedule to recur at a specific interval, as follows:
      1. Hourly – The schedule executes at the start time selected and recurs for the number of hours specified, until the end date is reached.

      2. Daily – The schedule executes at the start time selected and recurs for the number of days specified, until the end date is reached.

      3. Weekly – The schedule executes at the start time selected and recurs for the number of weeks specified, on the specific day of the week selected, until the end date is reached.

      4. Monthly – The schedule executes at the start time selected and recurs for the number of months specified, on the specific day of the month selected, until the end date is reached.

      5. By the Minute – The schedule executes at the start time selected and recurs for the number of minutes specified, until the end date is reached.

Caution: Use this feature sparingly as it could overload the server needlessly depending on the frequency chosen and the task to be executed.

    7. When you are done, click OK.

The new discovery task is added to the Schedules table.
