    Inband Management

The BTI7800 supports inband management, where management traffic of a BTI7800 network element (NE) is carried inband over an Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) in a ROADM network.

The ODCC (OSC Data Communications Channel) is an OSC-supported data management communications link that carries the management traffic between ROADM nodes. The ODCC is configured as part of the management communications network to support remote access to BTI7800 NEs that are not directly connected to the management network via the eth1 port.

The BTI7800 supports both static and dynamic routing (using IS-IS) of management traffic.

Note: Inband management with static routing is supported starting with release 2.1.1. Dynamic routing is supported starting with release 4.1.

The IS-IS (Intermediate System-Intermediate System) protocol is an interior gateway protocol (IGP) that divides a routing domain into areas. Routing within an area is known as level-1 routing. Routing between areas is known as level-2 routing.

When dynamic inband management is configured on a BTI7800 NE, the NE functions as a level-1 router. It uses IS-IS to learn the topology in its area, including all resident intermediate systems (routers) and end systems, and to calculate the shortest route to every other router in that area. These routes (adjacencies) are then programmed into the CMM so that intra-area traffic can be forwarded.

Note: IS-IS is supported only on the active CMM. When a standby CMM becomes the active CMM, all routes must be relearned, recalculated, and reprogrammed into the CMM. When a supporting ROADM2 or ILA module is rebooted, IS-IS adjacency will drop within 30 seconds, but will be reestablished as the module restarts.
