Juniper Networks Academic Alliance
Juniper Networks Academic Alliance - Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Juniper Networks Academic Alliance program?
- The Juniper Networks Academic Alliance program is designed specifically for colleges and universities to offer Juniper Networks Enterprise Networking courses to their students. By establishing schools as institutions that offer the latest in enterprise networking technology education, they will be helping to advance their students' careers in the networking field as part of their institution's curriculum.
- Who can participate and what are the requirements?
- Any post-secondary school, college, or university that wants to offer IT training can participate in the Academic Alliance program. However, certain requirements do apply. We require that schools have an existing computer science curriculum that covers basic networking.
- Is Juniper Networks Certification part of the program?
- The Juniper Networks Technical Certification Program consists of platform-specific, multi-tiered tracks, which enable participants to demonstrate—through a combination of written proficiency exams and hands-on configuration and troubleshooting exams—competence with Juniper Networks technology.
- We understand the importance of academic achievement when a student seeks employment. We also know the advantage that industry-recognized certification lends to prospective employees during recruitment.
- What does the Academic Alliance program offer to schools today?
- At this time, Juniper Networks is offering participating schools courseware, discounted lab equipment, and an instructor authorization program in enterprise networking.
- The courseware and lab guides are available for direct purchase online in either hardcopy or in the form of downloadable PDF files. Participating schools will also be required to purchase a configuration of discounted J-series routers or EX-series switches so that they can conduct labs at their facility.
- Other courses are expected to be available in the future.
- Is the courseware adaptable?
- Yes, the courseware can be broken up into modular pieces as best fits the needs of participating schools' class schedules and semester or trimester offerings.
- Do the learning materials offer the most up-to-date technology information?
- We understand that deploying enterprise networks that can securely and reliably deliver high-speed services is a must for setting businesses apart in today's highly competitive world. The Academic Alliance program prepares students to keep pace with a rapidly changing networking technology landscape by providing them with the technical detail and capabilities needed to ensure their ability to operate successful networks. Our courses are updated on a regular basis to include any product-specific or technology enhancements.
- What will participation in the program cost?
- The courseware will be sold at a minimal cost and can be ordered directly by the school online from our fulfillment source.
- Specially discounted J-series routers and EX-series switches are required and available to establish the school's lab environment.
- Schools will be required to incur the initial cost of getting their instructor candidates authorized. This cost may include a fee to attend the course from one of our Juniper Networks Authorized Education Centers (JNAECs) and the additional cost of travel and expense.
- What type of support is available for participating schools?
- Instructors will have access to the Juniper Networks Education Services staff of professional course developers and teams that will assist them with tips and feedback, as well as certified instructors who are industry-recognized IP and security networking experts.
- Participating schools that have purchased lab equipment will receive standard warranties on the equipment itself plus any support agreement for the equipment for which they have opted with the reseller from whom it was purchased. A support agreement will give the participating schools full access to our Juniper Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) for any hardware or software issues.
- What qualifications are needed to teach the course?
- After attending the courses you intend to teach, the instructor candidate must then pass the associated Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate exam and the Juniper Networks Certified Internet Specialist exam, delivered by any Prometric Testing Center worldwide. It is expected that the candidate be certified by other networking vendors and have experience in teaching IP and networking-related courses.
