The WLC880 Wireless LAN Controller brings the scalability, manageability, reliability, and resiliency, of wired networks to wireless LANs. Designed for mainstream 802.11n deployment, it also offers incredible future-proofing for up to 256 802.11n access points equipped with support for three spatial streams each.

The WLC880 offers intelligent switching that combines centralized and distributed data forwarding, and may offload policy enforcement, deep packet inspection and data forwarding to access points for optimized traffic flow, reduced latency, and scalability.

The WLC880 also enables the WLAN to be extended to branch offices using AES encrypted tunnels over the Internet. This enables a simplified branch office wireless network deployment model that eliminates complexity, while leveraging the investment in existing corporate security infrastructure and policies. The result is easier and more rapid deployment of secure wireless LAN services in small branch or retail offices, needing only low cost “Remote APs” and no local controller in the branch.

Seamless Mobility:

Up to 64 WLC Series Wireless LAN Controllers of any size may be grouped together to form a single Mobility Domain that shares user session information between member controllers, allowing users to roam seamlessly from access point to access point, indoors and outdoors, and even across different controllers without ever needing re-authentication.

Nonstop Wireless Availability:

The WLC880 can also participate as a member of a Virtual Controller Cluster, comprising up to 32 WLC Series Wireless LAN Controllers of any size. Juniper Networks' unique Virtual Controller Cluster provides many-to-many resiliency for each controller simultaneously in service without needing hot-standby controllers, enabling nonstop wireless availability with hitless failover for all sessions including voice. This feature also allows in-service upgrades, adds, moves, and changes with zero downtime.
