The EX4200 line of Ethernet switches, designed for access and aggregation deployments, deliver the best of modular, chassis-based systems in a compact and efficient form factor.
The EX4200 line offers 24- and 48-port fixed-configuration 10/100/1000BASE-T platforms with full (all ports) and partial (eight ports) Power over Ethernet (PoE) options. A 24-port 100BASE-FX/1000BASE-X SFP-based fiber platform, designed for gigabit aggregation deployments requiring support for long-distance links, is also available. Optional four-port Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and two-port 10GbE uplink modules with pluggable optics are also available.
Virtual Chassis Technology
What makes the EX4200 line unique is Juniper's Virtual Chassis technology, which allows up to 10 switches to be interconnected over a 128 Gbps backplane to create a single, logical device supporting up to 480 users and 20 10GbE uplink ports.
When deployed in a Virtual Chassis configuration, EX4200 switches share a common Junos operating system and configuration file, greatly simplifying system operations, maintenance and troubleshooting. Interconnections can also be made over the 10GbE uplink ports, so members of the same Virtual Chassis configuration can be in different wiring closets, on different floors or even in different buildings, and still be managed as a single device.
Businesses can start with a single EX4200 and use Virtual Chassis technology to add new switches incrementally as requirements grow, avoiding large up-front investments required by chassis-based solutions, all while keeping power and cooling costs to a minimum. At the same time, the EX4200 switches feature many of the same HA features as chassis-based solutions, including internal redundant hot-swappable power supplies and a field-replaceable fan tray.
The EX4200 switches also run the same Junos operating system that powers other Juniper switches, routers and security devices, providing a consistent set of features and capabilities across the Juniper network infrastructure.

1 Each switch comes with one power supply, RJ-45 cable, RJ-45-to-DB-9 serial port adapter, 19" rack mount kit, and Virtual Chassis cable and connector retainer. Each system also ships with a power cord for the country to which it is being shipped. The EX4200-24F also comes with fiber port dust covers.
