GBE Modules
Generic interfaces—Each model has two generic ports (ETH2 and ETH3) that can be used with standard connectors, such as small form-factor pluggable transceivers (SFPs), to create fiber-optic or Gigabit Ethernet connections and provide additional LAN connectivity. The following SFPs are available:
- 1000Base-SX—Duplex LC connector, multimode, rated for 500 m over 10-micron core cable, 850-nm laser transmitter
- 1000Base-LX—Duplex LC connector, single-mode, rated for 10 m over 10-micron core cable, 1310-nm laser transmitter
- 1000Base-T—RJ-45 connector, rated for up to 100 m on CAT5 cable
IPMI Management Module
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) — a message-based hardware management interface — offers remote monitoring, management, and recovery capabilities, regardless of the status of the server. It includes interfaces common to computer hardware and firmware that can be used to monitor system health and manage the system.
Because IPMI operates independently of the operating system, a system can be managed remotely even without an OS or system management software, and even if the monitored system is not powered on.
IPMI version 1.5 and later can send alerts via a direct serial connection, a LAN, or a serial over LAN connection to a remote client. Using the same connections requests can be issued from a remote console, including querying the controller status and reviewing hardware logs.
