Juniper Networks Announces General Availability of EX2200 Ethernet Switches for Branch Offices and Campus Networks

Station Casinos Deploys Highly Cost-Effective Gigabit Ethernet Access Solution for its Converged Data, Voice and Video Needs

SUNNYVALE, Calif., February 24, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced general availability of Juniper Networks' EX2200 Ethernet Switches, which offers a highly cost-effective, high-performance solution for supporting today's converged network access deployments in branch and remote offices as well as campus networks.

Featuring Junos® software-based Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 switching capabilities, the new EX2200 line of fixed-configuration managed Ethernet switches offers a plug-and-play 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet solution that satisfies the access connectivity requirements of today's high-performance businesses at a lower price point than most competitive managed Layer 2 10/100 Ethernet enterprise access switches. Environmentally conscious, the EX2200 switches feature low-acoustic fans, consume less than two watts per port on non-PoE models, and have a compact 10-inch depth, making them an ideal solution for small office environments where switches are frequently installed on tabletops or other open areas.

Station Casinos, Inc., the premier provider of gaming and entertainment for residents of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, is one of the first customers to deploy Juniper's EX2200 switches in their production network.

"Juniper's EX2200 delivers an exceptional level of performance and functionality at a fraction of the cost of comparable solutions," said Bryan Miles, Director of Networking and Telecommunications at Station Casinos. "For all of our converged data, voice and video needs, we can count on the EX2200 to deliver carrier-class performance and reliability in a compact solution where space and power are at a premium. Additionally, with Junos as the single operating system, the EX2200 will help us lower our expense of adoption and reduce our total cost of ownership."

Complete Portfolio of High-Performance Ethernet Switches

The EX Series Ethernet Switches advance the economics of networking by enabling a high-performance network infrastructure based on three key tenets—operational simplicity, carrier-class reliability and integrated security—that deliver ubiquitous access, reduce network downtime and enhance overall security to shared assets across the extended enterprise.

"By broadening our portfolio to include the new EX2200 switches, we are able to address the entry-level Ethernet switch market with a product that can significantly trim down the cost for customers to deliver consistent IT network services regardless of customer size or location," said David Yen, executive vice president and general manager, Fabric and Switching Technologies at Juniper Networks. "We offer a very compelling value proposition for customers looking for an entry-level, standalone solution but demand uninterrupted, uncompromised delivery of the applications that drive business processes."

Junos Operating System Reduces Complexity and Lowers TCO

The EX2200 runs the same Junos OS used by other EX Series Ethernet Switches, as well as other Juniper Networks routers and SRX Series Services Gateways. By utilizing a single source operating system, Juniper delivers a consistent implementation and operation of control-plane features across products, ensuring unmatched carrier-class reliability and operational simplicity. A study conducted by Forrester Consulting, Inc. (NASDAQ: FORR) reported that companies that use Junos achieved a 41 percent reduction in overall network operations costs across specific tasks such as planning, deploying and provisioning of resources. Pricing and Availability

Four platform configurations are available offering 24 and 48 10/100/1000BASE-T ports, both with and without Power over Ethernet (PoE). The 24- and 48-port PoE EX2200 switches support 802.3af standards-based PoE for powering networked devices such as telephones, video cameras and wireless LAN (WLAN) access points in converged networks. The EX2200 PoE switches are also capable of supporting standards-based 802.3at PoE+ for powering networked devices like multiple radio IEEE 802.11n wireless access points and video phones that may require more than the 15.4 watts available with IEEE 802.3af. List price for base configuration starts at US$1,995.
