iiNet Upgrades Infrastructure with Juniper Networks to Deliver Next Generation Services

Juniper selected for quality of product and return on investment

AUSTRALIA, October 13, 2009 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced iiNet, Australia's third largest Internet Service Provider (ISP), plans to upgrade its network infrastructure and deliver IPTV services with MX Series Ethernet Services Routers to increase capacity, improve availability and deliver high quality of experience.

iiNet has made the investment as part of an ongoing strategy to differentiate itself from competition by adding value through the delivery of rich content and services such as video alongside voice and data.

"Delivering IPTV is a big part of our business plan as we look to deliver further value and a greater experience to our customers," said Greg Bader, iiNet's Chief Technology Officer. "This project was borne through a desire to increase our network capacity, support a strategy of delivering value-add services and boost efficiencies on the iinetwork. Juniper's Ethernet Services Routers were already proven in the market and Juniper won the contract based on their product's quality, flexibility and value. Much of our focus for innovation is at the customer and service layers.  With Juniper, we're 100 percent confident the project will be a great success, both for the business and for our customers."

iiNet is deploying MX480 and MX240 routers from Juniper Networks in its metro-network exchanges across all capital cities, making use of iiNet's existing dark fibre to increase capacity on some parts of the iinetwork from 1Gbps to 10Gbps. The Sydney and Brisbane metro rings are already live, with the Melbourne site due to be completed in the next few weeks.

The MX Series is a family of Ethernet Services routers with powerful Layer 2 and Layer 3 features designed for high-performance service providers and enterprises. Consisting of the MX960, MX480 and MX240, the MX Series Ethernet Services Routers provide high density routing and switching with intelligent services in a range of efficient, high-performance platforms.

iiNet expects the upgrade will deliver new return on investment through increased efficiency on the iinetwork, reduced operating costs and enhanced customer experience.

"iiNet is a very forward thinking service provider that is looking at ways to differentiate itself from the pack — especially as broadband connectivity becomes more commoditized," said Alex Krawchuk, director service providers, Juniper Networks Australia. "A well designed network that can support the delivery of rich content and services is becoming ever more important as ISPs set to redefine their business models."
