Hong Kong Broadband Network Scales Border Network with Juniper Networks M Series

M Series Multiservice Edge Routers Deployed to Scale Bandwidth and Increase Stability of International Network Peering

HONG KONG — July 30, 2009 —Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN) has deployed M Series Multiservice Edge Routers to support continued expansion of its international network connectivity. HKBN selected the Juniper M Series routers for their exceptional flexibility and reliability, and their ability to deliver proven performance advantages over a wide range of connectivity options.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited (SEHK: 1137, NASDAQ: CTEL), HKBN is the fastest growing and innovative provider of residential and corporate fixed telecommunications networks and international telecommunications services in Hong Kong. It provides broadband Internet access up to 1Gbps, telephony, IPTV, corporate and mobile data services with its self-built Metro Ethernet IP network.

"Our goal is to become Hong Kong's largest next-generation service provider by 2016, which we aim to achieve by offering superior service both in terms of infrastructure and customer focus. We pioneered fiber-to-the-home services in Hong Kong and we've matched that with aggressive expansion of our international network connectivity to ensure a great end-to-end experience for our broadband customers," said Ivan Tam, chief technology officer of Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited. "We needed highly-reliable border routers with a robust protocol stack to connect with our overseas peering partners. Juniper's approach to networking and its product portfolio aligns precisely with HKBN, focusing on flexibility, reliability and performance, while lowering total cost of ownership. This is the first step in our relationship with Juniper Networks and, as we explore further business opportunities, we look forward to a long-term relationship in our continued pursuit of our Hong Kong market leadership."

HKBN already has more than 350,000 FTTX broadband customers in Hong Kong, giving it the second largest market share. It aims to extend its network coverage to 90 percent of Hong Kong households by the end of 2012. HKBN's core service is a market-leading symmetric 100Mbps unlimited broadband access for the residential market priced at US$34/month.

Since 2007 it has increased its international bandwidth by more than 60 percent and continues to build capacity, ensuring customers' Internet upload and download demand is consistently met.

"Hong Kong Broadband Network has succeeded in going from an up-start to a bona fide leadership challenger, becoming a world-class service provider with a world-class network infrastructure," said Adam Judd, senior vice president for Asia Pacific, Juniper Networks. "This initial deal marks the beginning of what we believe is an exciting, long-term opportunity for Juniper Networks."

The Juniper Networks M Series Multiservice Edge Routers have been installed at HKBN's peering point for load-balancing and redundancy. The Juniper Networks M Series is a family of high-performance multiservice edge routers, with advanced routing features that deliver exceptional flexibility and reliability over a wide range of connectivity options. This allows for the rapid deployment of new services while minimizing the total cost of ownership. The Juniper Networks M Series uses a hardware-based approach combined with the highly scalable, secure and reliable JUNOS® Software. This gives service providers best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities, enabling them to deliver multiple services without compromise.
