Juniper Networks Introduces Next Generation of Network Infrastructure for the Distributed Enterprise

Industry's Only Multi-service Network Infrastructure Based on a Single OS Enables Enterprises to Reduce OPEX by 41 Percent*

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 4, 2009 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced its next generation network infrastructure for the distributed enterprise, including new additions to the SRX Series Services Gateways and a new line of EX Series Ethernet Switches. The new SRX240 can deliver up to five times the security performance for half the cost of competitive alternatives and the new EX Series delivers enterprise-class gigabit access connectivity at a lower list price than equivalent devices. Offered as part of the Juniper Networks Distributed Enterprise Solutions with the Network and Security Manager (NSM) and JUNOS® Software, customers can design and deploy efficient networks that provide industry leading performance and security at lower operational costs across locations of all sizes.

"Organizations must deliver a complete set of business services to their geographically dispersed workforce without limiting options, increasing risk or degrading the user experience," said Andrew Braunberg, research director, Enterprise Security & Networks, Current Analysis. "A carrier-class infrastructure that includes integrated security, routing and switching running on a single operating system with common management, and that offers a uniform approach from the largest to the smallest sites, is a great benefit to IT organizations as they tackle the challenges of deployment across an increasingly decentralized landscape."

Juniper Networks Distributed Enterprise Solutions are an essential part of the company's commitment to delivering IT services without the constraints and outdated cost structures found in traditional networks. As legacy networks expand or change, the use of single-purpose appliances grows, increasing the number of operating systems, network layers and management applications. This drives up complexity and leads to unnecessarily high costs. With the consistency of a single source network operating system, coupled with centralized management and integrated security, the Distributed Enterprise Solutions offer the industry's first integrated multi-service network infrastructure designed so enterprise IT experts can extend a high performance headquarters-like experience to employees at sites of any size.

New SRX Series Services Gateways

The four new additions to the SRX Series family are based on the industry's first Dynamic Services Architecture, an extensible approach that simultaneously scales integrated services and network capacity to reduce the escalating demands and risks placed on the network. These new products can support a complete suite of unified threat management and intrusion prevention capabilities to protect the network from the latest content borne threats. Select SRX models feature hardware based Content Security Acceleration for high-performance inline anti-virus and intrusion prevention services (IPS) as well as Power over Ethernet (PoE) and standards-based SIP voice gateway capability.

Four models are available: the SRX100 with a variety of fixed form-factor options; the SRX210 with single-slot modularity; the SRX240 with 16 on board Gbps Ethernet ports and four expansion slots; and the SRX650 with eight expansion slots for WAN/LAN interfaces, available redundant power supplies and available redundant Services and Routing Engines. All models have integrated security, routing and switching. Firewall/IPS performance ranges from 600/50 to 7000/900 Mbps and list prices start at US $699. This is the first time the $699 starting point has been achieved by a product with this breadth of integrated, high-performance networking.

New EX Line of Ethernet Switches

The new EX2200 line of fixed-configuration Ethernet switches offers an economical, plug-and-play, high-performance, low-power solution for access-layer deployments in branch offices and campus networks consuming less than two Watts per port at a lower price than competitive Fast Ethernet enterprise access switches. Featuring JUNOS Software-based Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching capabilities, the EX2200 Ethernet Switches satisfy the access connectivity requirements of today's high-performance businesses. Four models are available: the EX2200-24T-4G and EX2200-48T-4G offer 24 and 48 10/100/1000BASE-T ports respectively, while the EX2200-24P-4G and EX2200-48P-4G offer similar configurations with full IEEE 802.3af PoE to support converged network devices such as telephones, video cameras and wireless LAN (WLAN) access points.

The Distributed Enterprise Solutions work collaboratively with Juniper's recently announced Adaptive Threat Management Solutions and Unified Access Control (UAC) solutions. Adaptive Threat Management including NSM and the STRM Series Security Threat Response Manager delivers real-time threat defense, unparalleled network-wide visibility and control, unified device and policy management, and centralized automation. UAC solutions include the IC Series Unified Access Control Appliances with the UAC Agent and agent-less mode, and leverage the EX Series (and existing vendor-agnostic 802.1X access points and switches) as well as the SSG Series Secure Services Gateway and SRX Series as enforcement points.

"We believe that the Juniper Networks Distributed Enterprise Solutions and JUNOS provide us the consistency in modularity and life-cycle management across our portfolio, and it gives us the scalability, flexibility and efficiency we require to support our strategic goals and objectives," said Steven Graves, director, IT Technical Services, EXPRESS (www.EXPRESS.com), an innovative fashion retailer with more than 550 stores across the United States.

A study conducted by Forrester Consulting, Inc. (NASDAQ: FORR) in February 2009 demonstrates that through the use of JUNOS and Juniper switches and routers, companies achieved reductions in operational costs for specific network operations tasks, including planning and provision, deployment, planned and unplanned network events. Among other top-line results, the study reports a 41% reduction in overall network operations costs based on dollar savings across specific task categories. For additional study results, see "Independent Study Shows TCO Improvements with JUNOS Implementation."

The JUNOS Software Advantage

JUNOS Software delivers unmatched carrier-class reliability and operational simplicity across Juniper's product portfolio. To maintain uniformity and quality, Juniper adheres to a disciplined JUNOS development process that uses a single source code base and employs a highly available modular architecture that prevents isolated failures from bringing an entire system down.

Centralized Management with NSM

NSM, a highly scalable unified device management solution for Juniper's network infrastructure, provides centralized device lifecycle management, granular policy configuration and comprehensive monitoring, reporting and investigative tools. This enables the distributed enterprise to maximize the security of their connectivity and value add hosting services while improving IT efficiency.

Advanced Insight Solutions (AIS) Intelligence

Juniper Networks Distributed Enterprise Solutions can also leverage the AIS intelligence built into JUNOS Software. AIS is the enabling technology for advanced levels of Juniper's J-Care Technical Services that effectively provides the support of a technical-engineer as built in capability within every device run by JUNOS, taking hours or days out of typical response times. AIS is available with J-Care Efficiency, Continuity and Agility levels of support. Juniper's proactive technical support streamlines operations across the full routing, switching and network services infrastructure, enabling businesses to significantly lower operating expenses and increase availability.

Managed Services

Managed service providers seeking to deliver new and enhanced value-added services can now benefit from the marriage of Juniper's high-performance routing and connectivity heritage with leading advanced security and management services to decrease service delivery costs and reduce risks associated with introducing new services. With a consistent implementation of connectivity, security, and management features, managed services providers have the choice and flexibility to create and deploy services using a variety of strategies, including network-based as well as Customer Premise Equipment based offering. In addition, the Distributed Enterprise Solutions feature centralized management and services activation capabilities that enable managed service providers to minimize the need for expensive truck rolls to provision customer premise based services, enabling higher margins, lower costs, and improved customer satisfaction.

Pricing and Availability

The new SRX210, SRX240 and SRX650 Services Gateways are available today. Base list pricing for the SRX210 is USD $1,099, the SRX240 is USD $2,999 and the SRX650 is USD $16,000. The new SRX100 is expected to be available in 3Q09 with a starting list price of USD $699. The new EX2200 line is expected to be available in 1Q10 with a starting list price of USD $2,400.
