Legal Aid Ontario Secures New Private Network with Juniper Networks
High-Performance Security Solutions Provide a Trusted and Responsive Environment for Confidential Legal Records
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 6, 2008 -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Legal Aid Ontario has deployed the Juniper Networks Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) platform, more than 175 Secure Services Gateway (SSG) firewall /VPN appliances, Secure Access SSL VPN appliances, and the NSM management solution to secure its networked resources, and enable the organization's migration to a more efficient private network.
The Juniper Networks high-performance security solutions allowed Legal Aid Ontario to bring its more than 175 locations, 1,200 users, and over 4,000 outside private lawyers together under one private network, while improving operational efficiency and increasing network control, resulting in approximately $500,000 CDN in annual savings. Legal Aid Ontario runs one of the most sophisticated networks of not-for-profit legal aid services in Canada, and serves thousands of people every day who would not otherwise receive legal assistance.

Juniper's IDP family of high-performance platforms provides zero-day protection against network attacks leveraging recently discovered vulnerabilities, helping to avert new attacks from penetrating and spreading throughout an organization. Juniper's IDP platforms identify and stop network and application-level attacks before they inflict damage, minimizing the time and costs associated with investigating and preventing intrusions. In addition to protecting networks against attacks, the platforms provide information on rogue servers, as well as types and versions of applications and operating systems that may have been inadvertently installed on network devices. Managed by NSM, a centralized, rule-based management solution that provides granular control over the system's behavior, administrators are able to easily manage and effectively control access to specific applications to ensure the delivery of business critical applications.
To provide comprehensive network and application protection, Legal Aid Ontario also deployed SSG firewall/VPN appliances to deliver a complete set of Unified Threat Management security features including Stateful firewall, IPSec VPN, IPS, Antivirus (includes Anti-Spyware, Anti-Adware, Anti-Phishing), Anti-Spam, and Web Filtering to each of its locations. Legal Aid Ontario will also use Juniper's firewall/VPN appliances to provide perimeter security for DMZs and internal networks, and to provide a redundant connection at each office with the appliances' high-availability capabilities.
With the Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN appliances, Legal Aid Ontario is able to provide mobile users anytime, anywhere secure remote access to its high-performance network from any Web-enabled device. The use of SSL as a secure access transport mechanism eliminates the need for pre-installed client software deployment, changes to internal servers and costly ongoing client maintenance. The addition of Juniper's Secure Meeting option extends the capabilities of the SSL VPN appliances by instantly and securely provisioning Web conferencing and online collaboration for employees with just a standard Web-browser.
