Juniper Networks Gateway Platforms Earn Federal Information Processing Certification for Government Procurement Security Features
Company's High Performance Solutions Now Accessible for Federal Procurement to Solve Critical Challenges in Security, Connectivity and Information Sharing
SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 22, 2008 -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that the Juniper Networks Secure Services Gateway (SSG) 5, 20, 520M, and 550M, Integrated Services Gateway (ISG) 1000 and 2000 along with NS-5200 and NS-5400 security appliances have received the current Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2, Level 2 certification. The purpose-built security platforms provide government customers with high-speed, best in class routing and security that meet their specialized security needs and conform to current procurement practices.

The Juniper Networks SSG 5, SSG 20, SSG 520M, and SSG 550M solutions are customized to provide federal customers with high-performance Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) connectivity, complete with a set of optional Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features to protect the network from worms, viruses, trojans, and emerging security threats at wire-speed.
The NS-5200 and NS-5400 are purpose-built high performance firewall/IPSec VPN security appliances designed to deliver the high-performance and scalability required in many large networks. The ISG 1000 and ISG 2000 platforms deliver the best of both worlds with flexible high-performance firewalls that include optional Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) functionality. Full IPS capabilities available on the ISG family of products ensure network protection from a wide range of attacks as well as threats exploiting newly discovered vulnerabilities.
Juniper Networks joins a short list of vendors with certified solutions that are compliant with FIPS 140-2 Level 2 requirements, which include tamper-evident physical security or pick-resistant locks, role-based authentication, and software cryptography in multi-user timeshared systems when used in conjunction with a C2-level or equivalent trusted operating system.
Federal acquisition and procurement guidelines require that most government agencies purchase IT security products that meet the FIPS and Common Criteria benchmarks. The FIPS 140-2 certification, administered by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST), is a government standard that defines the security requirements that must be satisfied by a cryptographic module used in a security system protecting unclassified information within IT systems. FIPS-certified products meet stringent security specifications designed to protect the user against impending threats.
