Juniper Networks to Demonstrate High-Performance Networking For Research and Education at SC07

Juniper to Illustrate 40 Gbps Connection over Long-haul Optical Backbone and GMPLS Signaling

SUNNYVALE, Calif., and RENO, Nev., November 12, 2007 -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced its participation in two key demonstrations at SC07, the annual supercomputing conference held this year November 12-15, 2007 in Reno, Nev. These demonstrations will utilize the Juniper Networks T-series core platforms, including the new Juniper Networks T1600 multi-terabit router. Attendees will witness a live 40 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) connection over a long-haul optical network, and the use of Generalized Multi Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling to provision a light path through the core. These networking capabilities are designed to meet the rising bandwidth and service needs of today's high-performance networks.

"Juniper's core platforms provide a wide range of emerging services such as high-bandwidth video-on-demand, advanced mobile and multimedia applications and interconnection between large data centers," said Pradeep Sindhu, chief technology officer at Juniper Networks. "At SCO7, we will demonstrate signaling between the IP and optical domains for circuit provisioning, as well as high-performance platforms transferring content-intensive traffic over long distances at great speed. These capabilities are particularly important for facilitating the needs of today's researchers to collaborate worldwide."

Juniper will participate in a demonstration that will carry up to 40 Gbps of traffic generated by Fermi National Laboratory's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) mass storage system near Chicago, Ill., to the California Institute of Technology booth on the SC07 exhibit floor. Juniper's T-series routers will showcase the ability of the Juniper Networks OC-768 and four-port OC-192 router interfaces to address increased bandwidth and collaboration demands. The traffic will run on Internet2's next-generation optical network employing Juniper T-series routers and Infinera Data Transmission Network (DTN) optical nodes. Juniper's 40 Gbps and optical integration capabilities increase network performance and total network capacity and greatly enhance the operational efficiency of the network.

A second demonstration will feature GMPLS User-to-Network Interface (UNI) signaling, which allows optical network users to dynamically provision an optical connection through the core. Juniper will use GMPLS UNI signaling between the T1600, two Infinera DTN optical nodes, and the Juniper Networks MX960 Ethernet Services router running in the SCInet Network Operations Center (NOC).
