Juniper Networks Delivers Experience-based Networking with Enhanced Policy Management Portfolio

New Session and Resource Control Solutions Enable Providers to Allocate NGN Resources in Response to Real-Time Requests from Applications and Users

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 19, 2007--Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today introduced a portfolio of Session and Resource Control (SRC) solutions that provide comprehensive subscriber management and deep policy control capabilities, enabling service providers to ensure a high-quality user experience for multiplay and mobile services in next-generation networks. The Session and Resource Control portfolio features new modular SRC software applications that build upon the broad feature set of the widely deployed SDX-300 Service Deployment System, and the new C-series family of controllers which support end-to-end policy management on a dedicated, purpose-built platform.

By extending Juniper's experience and leadership in IP networking to the policy and control market, the new SRC solutions simplify network operations and deployment, while delivering the end-to-end performance, reliability and scalability required to support multiplay services such as IPTV, video on demand, VoIP and advanced mobile and FMC applications.

"Policy management is becoming increasingly important to us as advanced services such as IPTV require more real-time control," said Bjorn Netland, project director, Broadband Development at Telenor. "Juniper's new Session and Resource Control portfolio looks to address our need for service management with an innovative approach that integrates both hardware and software."

Juniper's Session and Resource Control portfolio gathers and compiles data from multiple sources–the network, subscribers and applications–and uses this information to automatically control and manage network resources in real time. The Session and Resource Control portfolio overcomes the operational complexities of deploying advanced multimedia services, and is closely aligned with emerging next-generation network architectures and specifications proposed by industry organizations including ETSI/TISPAN, the ITU, 3GPP IMS and CableLabs. The portfolio also includes a webservice interface that forms the basis for future participation in an IPsphere service management framework.

"Real-time network resource admission and policy control is an increasingly important network function that service providers are integrating into next-generation network architectures," said Mark Bieberich, vice president, enabling technologies service provider - infrastructure solutions practice, Yankee Group. "The technology vendors that can combine open, scalable and reliable policy control solutions with proven expertise in building advanced IP/MPLS networks will have a distinct advantage in the marketplace."

Maximizing Intelligence and Efficiency: The Session and Resource Control Portfolio

Building on the functionality of the SDX platform, the SRC family of software modules will include the SRC Policy Engine, which monitors and allocates network resources; the SRC Diameter Gateway, for end-to-end control of IMS applications over the network; and the SRC SOAP Gateway, for seamless integration with a wide variety of Juniper and third-party developed applications.

The new C-series portfolio, which includes the high performance C2000 and C4000 Controllers, hosts the SRC Policy Engine software module and enables service providers to cost effectively scale the solution in granular increments. This unique combination of hardware and software streamlines the operations environment and is optimized to meet emerging service and NGN requirements as they evolve.

Juniper Networks existing Steel-Belted Radius high-performance RADIUS servers for service providers, which deliver key Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) functionality, will also be included in the new Session and Resource Control portfolio.

Juniper's Commitment to Openness

Service providers, infrastructure suppliers, ISVs and system integrators can leverage the unique capabilities of the new Session and Resource Control portfolio via the Open IP Service Creation Program (OSCP). The OSCP, which continues to add new participants, is an open application development program that allows third parties to create new, innovative IP service management functionality by developing interfaces to or direct software applications for the Session and Resource Control portfolio. In a separate release issued today, Juniper announced new partnerships and solutions under development within the OSCP.

Agile, Open and Customizable Network Infrastructure

In addition, Juniper introduced the new Multiservices Physical Interface Card (MS-PIC), a next generation Services PIC that provides hardware acceleration for an array of packet processing intensive services and enforces policy defined by SRC modules. The MS PIC hosts a wide variety of services, including stateful firewall, NAT, IPSec, anomaly detection, L2TP LNS, J-flow accounting, link services, and tunnel services. This approach makes it possible for service providers to efficiently deliver revenue-generating security services and collect billing statistics, while eliminating layers of configuration and management complexity and lowering operational costs.

"As providers increasingly deploy multiplay services across converged IP and next-generation networks, maintaining control over network resources and subscribers will fast become a top priority," said Shailesh Shukla, vice president of service provider marketing and partnerships, Juniper Networks. "Our Session and Resource Control solutions will enable our service provider customers to effectively and efficiently change network behavior in response to real-time requests from users and applications, giving them a significant advantage in today's highly competitive market."
