KDDI Europe Launches Managed Security Service Built on Juniper Networks SSL VPN Platforms

Solution Creates Secure Remote Access for Protection, Compliance and Crisis

SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 23, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that KDDI Europe Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan's second largest full service telecommunications operator KDDI, has selected its Secure Access SSL VPN appliances to launch a managed service providing secure remote network access. The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances provide comprehensive virtualization enabling service providers to deliver network-based SSL VPN services to multiple enterprises of any size from a single appliance and/or cluster. The new service also deploys Juniper's integrated Firewall/IPSec VPN platforms to protect the underlying network infrastructure in KDDI's London data centre (a facility provided by KDDI Europe's sister company, Telehouse Europe). The service is initially available in the UK with plans to extend across Europe in the future, and targets enterprises in the financial services, manufacturing and automobile, travel agency, and airline sectors.

KDDI's Managed SSL/VPN service provides easy-to-use secure access to corporate network resources for home-workers and traveling employees. Customers of the service are able to protect valuable assets from hackers, worms, viruses and other threats, and can also leverage the service to help meet regulatory compliance requirements. KDDI also expects customers to extend use of the service during "emergency curfew" situations, such as bird 'flu outbreaks or extreme weather, when entire workforces are prevented from attending the office but still need to be productive.

"KDDI's Managed SSL/VPN service offers a premium secure remote access managed service for mission-critical and IT-dependent businesses, based on the pedigree of our parent company," said Akihiko Yamaguchi, sales director of KDDI Europe. "Evaluation of SSL VPN vendors quickly brought us to Juniper, the established market leader and the brand most readily associated with first-class SSL VPN solutions by our target audience. Its browser-based solution is simple yet highly effective, and is ideal for the managed services environment because it can be deployed immediately per user from a central location, and managed easily without any client software or license overhead."

Juniper Networks is the worldwide market leader in SSL VPN solutions. The Juniper Networks Secure Access series of SSL VPN appliances enable organizations of all sizes to deploy cost-effective secure access, extranet and intranet security. The use of SSL, the security protocol found in all standard Web browsers, eliminates the need for client-software deployment and costly ongoing client maintenance/support when compared to traditional IPSec solutions for remote access. The Secure Access SSL VPN also provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional extranets, enabling granular access for business partners, contractors or customers on the same platform used to provide remote access for mobile employees.

"Juniper's SA SSL VPN solution authenticates the user's identity and verifies the health of the endpoint device before network access is granted, and also enforces the access to specific resources each user is permitted to have." said Gert-Jan Schenk, vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. "A managed service offering based on our technology gives the enterprise a flexible, cost-effective and highly granular answer to the security risk versus productivity challenge."
