New ScreenOS Software Enables Customers To Address Evolving Threats

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 28, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced enhancements to its ScreenOS, the real-time, security-specific operating system for its firewall (FW) and IPSec Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliances. The new ScreenOS 5.4 enhancements give customers new tools to battle emerging content security threats. Tools include best-in-class Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features, captive redirect and policy-based routing.

Through best-in-class partners like Kaspersky, SurfControl and Symantec, the new ScreenOS operating system's UTM security features help protect traffic flowing in and out of the branch office from worms, spyware, trojans, and malware. In addition to UTM security features, the new ScreenOS now enables virtually all Juniper FW/VPN platforms - including the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family and the Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) Family with Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) security modules - to function as network access control enforcers in a Unified Access Control (UAC) environment. ScreenOS 5.4 also introduces captive portal functionality to Juniper's UAC solution, allowing for automatic redirect of new or unauthenticated users to the Juniper Infranet Controller for user authentication and endpoint security posture verification prior to granting access and ongoing access to network resources. This enables seamless access control that is transparent to end users.

The new ScreenOS policy-based routing capability allows network administrators to define security policies that will complement existing FW/VPN protection and traffic analysis capabilities by forwarding data packets based on parameters such as source, destination and protocol to a third-party solution for more granular analysis or inspection. In the battle against emerging attacks, policy-based routing greatly expands the options that customers can use to achieve and maintain network security.

Availability

Juniper Networks ScreenOS 5.4 is available now for the entire family of integrated FW/VPN appliances including the Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) Series and the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family. The optional UTM features are available only on the NetScreen-Hardware Security Client (HSC), NetScreen-5GT Series and the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) Family and may require payment of annual subscription fees to activate.
