State of South Carolina Relies on Juniper Networks for Secure and Assured Infrastructure
Juniper Routers, Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Solutions Ensure Network Security and Control Across 56 State Offices
SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 27, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that the state of South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services is utilizing Juniper Networks routers, firewalls and intrusion prevention appliances for comprehensive network control and security.

With a distributed network spanning 56 field locations, the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services needed a solution that would not only secure and control network use at the department headquarters, but easily extend the same level of security and control to each remote location. The Juniper Networks routers, firewalls and intrusion detection and prevention appliances provide the delivery, use and threat control required to support today's demanding network applications, manage network use and reduce threats.
The Department's link with the state government intranet is protected by a Juniper Networks M7i multi-service edge router capable of delivering both Layer 2 and Layer 3 service. With up to 8.4 Gbps of throughput, the M7i delivers high performance and reliability required for the central site, along with IP/MPLS services that provide delivery control and scale with proven stability. Juniper J4300 routers were also selected to be deployed at each of the department's field offices delivering a highly reliable and easily managed platform enabling the wide area network (WAN).
The Juniper Networks M- and J-series routers feature a modular system architecture and a single image of JUNOS, a proven carrier-class operating system, ensuring industry-leading reliability, stability and performance. By running multiple functions in parallel on assigned processing resources, JUNOS software delivers high stability with the flexibility to enable advanced routing, QoS, security, and management policies with predictable performance.
The Juniper Networks NetScreen-204 firewall/VPN is deployed at the edge of the network to enable use control, in which the firewall/VPN allows remote offices to securely connect via an IPSec connection to the state's intranet. Using the Juniper Networks IDP-100 appliance to control threats, the department monitors and prevents exploits, spyware and hack attempts at the network perimeter. The IDP appliance provides zero-day protection against spyware, worms, Trojans, keyloggers and other malware and is the only solution in the market to receive daily signature updates.
